Jill Stromberg began painting in 1983 after marrying and moving from Marina Del Rey, California, to Wichita, Kansas. After leaving the teaching profession, Jill traveled extensively with her husband, Mac, throughout the United States, Europe, South Africa and India. She developed a love for photographing the people and places she visited and began using them for the subjects and inspiration for her paintings.
For much of her painting career, Jill Stromberg has studied and taken workshops with many notable artists such as Bill Harrison, Kandy Tate, Tom Talbot, John Encinias, Gr. Rita Beuttel and Diane Pike. Jill has been accepted into many juried art exhibitions and received numerous awards.
Jill Stromberg's Impressionistic style softly interweaves light and color with dramatic moments of chiaroscuro. Her favorite subjects are people involved in daily activities, landscapes, and still life. Jill loves to paint outdoors, especially in the Kansas Flint Hills, the southwest, and along the beach. She likes to paint quickly, capturing the bold shapes of color and light on her subject matter.
Jill Stromberg currently lives in Sterling, Kansas with her husband Mac, their two dogs, McWoodruff and Molly, and their cat, Agatha. They have three sons, the oldest, Wallace is a Captain serving in the U.S. Army and is currently stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. Richard, a former Captain in the U.S. Army, is now in Australia attending Grad School. Joseph, the youngest, is currently pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles.
When Jill is not painting, she enjoys spending evenings at home with her husband and cooking and entertaining family and friends. She is also an avid gardener, traveler, and volunteer with her community.
Hope Through Art
After many years of creating works of art, I have come to the conclusion that for me, painting is merely an expression of hopefulness. I gravitate towards subjects of simple beauty which exhibit contrast between light and dark. I strive to exaggerate the light and intensity of color and the finished product is my attempt to convey the lightness of life and beauty of nature. Please enjoy a journey of light and hope through your viewing of my paintings.
